The body of a man has been discovered by a member of the public at Oxford's Shotover Park.

The body was discovered on the Horspath side of the park at 11.30am yesterday, Thames Valley Police have confirmed.

The man's body has not yet been identified, but the discovery follows the disappearance of Scott Newman, 38, on June 1.

He left his home in Horspath at 6am, apparently on his way to Oxford railway station to catch a train to his job in Reading.

His grey Renault Scenic car was found abandoned later the same day in undergrowth at the country park.

Mr Newman, a father of two, has not been seen since. His wife Michelle was due to make an appeal for information today at Cowley police station, but this has been cancelled until the man's identity has been established.

Thame Valley Police spokesman Kate Smith said: "The death is not being treated as suspicious."

Following Mr Newman's disappearance and the discovery of the car, police dog teams were called in to search the park, while police divers searched nearby lakes, but nothing was found.

Mr Newman was wearing a dark grey suit, burgundy shirt and burgundy tie when he was last seen alive.

His brother Glenn said after Mr Newman's disappearance: "It is very difficult. He suffered from depression in the past, but recently got promoted and he dotes over his two children and wife. He is a real family man."
