Oxford triple jumper Nathan Douglas was below his best as Great Britain's men were relegated from athletics' European Cup elite group for the first time in 35 years in Florence, Italy.
Douglas (right) could finish only fifth in his final, with a distance of 16.54m. Victory went to Germany's Charles Friedek with 17.20.
Christian Malcolm ran 20.16secs, his best time since 2001, to win the 200m, while the 4x400m relay squad won in an impressive 3mins 00.51secs.
But they were rare bright spots for Team GB, who finished seventh out of the eight nations, with Germany the winners.
