Two survivors of Oxford's Eastern Bypass crash are said to be making a remarkable recovery in hospital four weeks after the accident.

Oxford Community School headteacher Steve Lunt and two teachers visited Anton Dublin and Jake Proper, both 13, at Oxford's John Radcliffe Hospital and said the boys were looking forward to returning to school.

Both boys were in intensive care after the crash last month, but are now being treated on a children's ward.

The teachers said they were happy to see the boys were in a positive mood, wanting to come back to school and recovering well from their ordeal.

Mr Lunt said: "I was delighted to see Anton sitting up.

"He was chatty and watching a video of Arsenal's greatest games on the television.

"He was looking really chirpy but I don't know what the prognosis was, although he was happy to move his arms around.

"Two teachers who visited him a fortnight ago said there had been a remarkable improvement because he had been very grim. It's much better to see him more like his normal self.

"Jake is also making remarkable progress and he was really positive. In fact, both of them were really positive about returning to school."

Friends and students at Oxford Community School have recorded messages of goodwill on CDs and sent them to the boys' bedside.

Mr Lunt said: "Jake said whenever he felt down, he'd listen to the CDs."

Three of the boys' friends, Marshall Haynes, Josh Bartlett, and Liam Hastings, all 13, died in the crash on May 28. Howard Hillsdon, 21, from Yarnton, also died.

Anton's mother Angela, who was driving the gold Citroen Xsara when it crashed into Mr Hillsdon's Honda car, is in a stable condition at Swindon's Great Western Hospital.

Two other boys, Aiden Wood and Conor Hunt, have returned home after being released from hospital.

On Wednesday, hundreds of flowers and tributes laid by mourners at the scene of the crash were removed by members of the Women's Royal Voluntary Service.

FOUR people needed treatment for minor injuries at the John Radcliffe hospital following a crash on the Eastern Bypass, close to last month's tragedy.

The accident involving a Punto, a Land Rover and a van happened at about 10.50pm on Tuesday by the Horspath Driftway junction.
