to bikes

SIR -- The article, Bike Peril of Women (Oxford Mail, June 21), astonished me.

When I was in my teens, I had a bicycle equipped with a rear view mirror.

As that was several decades ago, I cannot remember if it came as part of the bike, or whether I was asked if I wanted one fitted.

Such mirrors certainly should be standard bike equipment.

A car salesman would not be allowed to sell a car without one. Bicycle salesmen shouldn't be allowed to do so either.

It is apparent, from your article, that many bicycle salesmen do not see this as their concern. I suggest that cyclists should arrange to add them to their bikes. Monica Macleod, Summerfield Road, Oxford
