A new vision for leisure and sport in Wallingford which would see councils, sports organisations, schools and the Castle Leisure Centre working together has been welcomed in the town.

And alongside new moves by Wallingford Town Council and Wallingford Business Partnership to boost the town and its trade, mayor Lynda Atkins believes the future is looking really bright.

She said: "It shows very clearly how councils and groups working together can get things done for the benefit of everyone."

South Oxfordshire District Council, Wallingford School and Wallingford Sports Trust plan to work together to create something special for sport and leisure in the town.

The district council funds the Castle Leisure Centre on the Wallingford School campus and leases land at Hithercroft to the sports trust.

Wallingford School is now a specialist sports college and is working on a variety of schemes, including installing a new climbing wall at the leisure centre.

School head Jerry Owens said: "We are delighted. If all the councils and sports bodies work together we can get the best use of facilities for everyone in the town."
