It was great to read that four Oxford secondary schools have gained awards in the latest round of Government incentives for schools to go for specialist excellence, with funds to follow (Oxford Mail, June 29).
But still no Oxford school has chosen to declare the value of sport in the life of young people and become a sports academy. The nearest is in Wantage!
No big hitters are batting for sports in Oxford.
Come on heads, raise your game, let's have an Oxford city school say we want to be a sports academy and thus recognise the defining role sport has in the health and sense of wellbeing for the young. Set the pace. There are funds for it. PETER TRAVIS, Falcon Rowing Trust, Fane Road, Oxford
