SWIMMERS are aiming to cover the equivalent distance of a return journey from Witney to its French twin town, Le Touquet.
Witney and District Swimming Club will take on the sponsored challenge of swimming the 318 miles at Carterton Swimming Pool, raising money for the club and Helen and Douglas House hospice in Oxford.
The 105 swimmers, whose ages range from eight to 41, hope to complete the swimathon in 24 hours, starting at noon tomorrow.
Club fundraiser Laura Dalgarno said: “The swimmers are looking forward to the challenge. They are excited, they are looking forward to having fun at the same time and working together as a team.”
Mrs Dalgarno, 41, of Leafield, added: “Helen and Douglas House was chosen by the committee as it’s a children’s hospice and we are a very family- and children-orientated club. We wanted to do something so that other children benefited.”
