ARTISTIC youngsters have created their own superheroes – and come up with some rather unusual super-powers.
Children at Windale Primary School in Blackbird Leys have been working with artist Miranda Creswell since January as part of a partnership between the school and Modern Art Oxford.
Thirty Year Five pupils created and drew their own character, then told a story around them.
Some of the more memorable characters were Bubble Brain Girl, whose brain was so big it had to be kept in a bubble outside her head and Swine Vile Girl – who combated swine flu.
The project started by discussing issues that the children cared about, focusing on poverty and illness with invited speakers from Oxfam and the John Radcliffe Hospital.
This was used as inspiration for the characters and their storylines.
The children also worked with film maker Adrian Spencer to produce and narrate one-minute comic strip films.
Ms Creswell said: “I’ve worked with the same class since they were in Year One and it has been extremely rewarding to see them develop their artistic and personal confidence over the years.”
