Landlords who want to convert family homes into student accommodation will need to apply for planning permission under new laws coming into effect next week.
From Tuesday, landlords will have to pay £355 to apply for permission to change the use of a family home under laws intended to prevent the creation of more student ‘ghettos’ in university towns.
A landlord who created a new House of Multiple Occupation without permission could be fined up to £20,000.
