Sir – Reg Little’s article on Oxclean 2010 (Report, March 18) is very heartening in one respect. A lot of people were concerned enough about the state of cleanliness of our city and its suburbs to take direct action to improve the situation.

But there is a very negative side to this question which he did not mention. That is that in order for there to be this problem we have to face up to the fact that our city also contains substantial numbers of people who have no compunction about littering the environment we all live in.

Just days after Oxclean 2010 the proof of this is all too evident and there seems little reason to think that the situation is going to improve.
