COUNTY council leader Keith Mitchell is mistaken if he thinks only Labour is to blame for our present crisis (Oxford Mail, March 19).

If I remember correctly, the present situation was caused by bankers – who were rescued by governments with tax payers’ money.

What would the Conservatives have done?

The county council invested council tax payers’ money in an Icelandic bank, but are we saying they are to blame for gambling with our money?

As for the accusation that Labour failed to improve learning and skills sufficient to meet modern needs, surely the blame lies with the county council, which is in charge of education in the area.

And it’s no good blaming Labour for taking us into a costly war with Iraq and Afghanistan. If I remember correctly, 130 Labour MPs voted against going to war with Iraq. It was the mass Conservative vote backing Tony Blair which took us in.

Who sold all our national assets to private enterprise? Where has that led us? Nearly all these assets are now foreign-owned. So much for Maggie Thatcher’s vision of making us all shareholders.

The truth is you can’t trust any of our politicians, or the words they utter. Our politicians have turned the Houses of Commons and Lords into the House of Cons and Frauds.
