The arrival of the Great Western Railway in the 19th century transformed Didcot from a village to a town which has become famous for its living museum recreating the golden age of steam. Thousands of steam enthusiasts from around the world visit the Didcot Railway Centre, which stages special events throughout the year.
The town, which is also known for the power station that dominates the landscape, is well-placed for road and Rail links.
Didcot Parkway Railway Station is much favoured by commuters heading to London, while the A34, which offers a link to both the M4 and M40, is only a couple of miles away.
Recent welcome developments include the Orchard Shopping Centre which offers around 30 shops, including major chain stores, the Cornerstone Arts Centre and a multi-screen Cineworld.
