A 45-year-old man is being held by detectives today over the indecent assault of a girl 28 years ago.
The 45-year-old was arrested in the north west of England yesterday by police investigating the attack in fields close to Didcot in April 1982.
Police spokesman Rebecca Webber said two girls, aged ten and 11, were walking in fields near the town when they were approached by a man who exposed himself.
He then indecently assaulted one of the girls in front of the other.
Miss Webber said yesterday’s arrest came after members of Thames Valley Police’s major crime review team had uncovered “significant” new forensic evidence.
The man, who lives in the greater Manchester area, is being brought to Oxfordshire and is expected to be interviewed later today.
Thames Valley Police’s major crime review team is reviewing all unsolved murder and significant sexual assault cases.
