BAND Scouting for Girls will visit Witney today for an exclusive concert in Oxfordshire’s last independent record store.

Rapture, in the Woolgate Centre, will play host to the band at 12.30pm,.

The group – formed in 2005 by Roy Stride, Greg Churchouse and Peter Ellard – also performed in the shop in December 2008.

Rapture owner Gary Smith said: “They played for us and then came to our Christmas party.

“I joked with them that once they had had a number one album they wouldn’t come back and play.

“Roy Stride, the lead singer, said they would and, true to that promise, they will be here.”

The band’s performance is to promote International Record Store Day, which will be marked at the shop on Saturday, April 17, with live music and events.

About 100 people are expected at today’s show, when the band will play tracks from their new album Everybody Wants to be on TV, due out next month, and older hits.

Mr Smith added: “I don’t think that a band that has had a number one album has played in the town before. It’s a first for Witney.”
