TROOPS will take part in more realistic training when eight parachute simulators arrive at RAF Brize Norton.
The hi-tech equipment will help armed forces personnel practice parachute jumping — without having to leave the ground.
The eight virtual reality machines will cost the Ministry of Defence £300,000.
It is hoped they will be installed later this year.
Wing Commander Glynne Alcock, the officer in command of the airborne delivery wing, said: “The new simulators will offer a quantum leap in capability for parachute training.
“For the first time ever, we will be able to accurately simulate real time emergency situations for parachutists to react to. This enhancement in safety is warmly welcomed.”
Trainees will be held by a parachute harness from a metal frame, wearing goggles which recreate jumps in different environments.
