IMAGINE being unable to afford a cake for your son or daughter’s birthday.
For some families in Oxford this is a reality, but a local group of bakers is here to help.
Free Cakes For Kids is an Oxford-based group set up by Henriette Lundgren, 31, with the aim to bake birthday cakes for children whose parents are unable to afford them.
The bakers speak to the child’s parents and create a unique cake based on the child’s interests.
Henriette said the project had so far baked 65 birthday cakes and hundreds of cupcakes since it started in 2008.
She said: “Free Cakes For Kids is not only about the cake, though. It’s about making and building relationships around those cakes. We’re not just giving the family a cake, we’re also giving them a party.”
