I FOUND Andrew Smith’s comments about the Smart car (Your Wheels, March 5) narrow- minded and very offensive.
Obviously writer Andrew Smith has no first hand experience of driving or owning a Smart car.
I have been the proud owner of a Smart Cabriolet for seven years now and have travelled far and wide in it. It has never given me any problems and with 60-plus fuel consumption. Road tax is only £35 a year – less than my husband’s motorbike!
We have travelled to the Rugby World Cup in France, returning with six cases of beer, four cases of wine, boxes of croissant and six sticks of French bread on top of our luggage.
We recently took a cruising holiday and packed two 20kg suitcases plus hand luggage into the car.
Our skiing holiday this year saw us pack four suitcases plus a handbag. We drove to the airport on both occasions more than comfortably It would seem to me that most journeys by car are single occupancy in large over- sized gas guzzlers making the Smart ideal for all journeys. It can park anywhere and my bright blue Smart always brings a smile to the faces of young and old alike
