Police caught 104 drivers using their mobile phones in Oxfordshire during organised checks.
The motorists were handed Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs) of £60 and three penalty points for the offence across the region, as Thames Valley Police staged a week of enforcement aiming to reduce the number of drivers who continue to ignore the dangers of using a mobile phone while driving.
In the Thames Valley a total of 348 people were caught during the campaign last week.
Additionally during the checks, police also:
- Caught 200 people not wearing seatbelts
- Seized four vehicles (for insurance and/or licence offences)
- Found 41 construction and use offences (such as bald tyres, tinted windows).
The checks were led by Oxfordshire Road Safety Constable Mark Pilling who said: “It is disappointing to find that drivers continue to put themselves and others at risk for the sake of a phone call.
“We will continue to address the issue through enforcement and education.”
Police said the figures represent the number caught in organised checks linked to the campaign, and other people caught during routine patrols were not included in the figures.
