A BID to increase the six-year jail term of man who plunged a knife into his ex-girlfriend’s chest in a jealous rage has failed.
Benjamin Thompson, 26, a former barman at Quod in Oxford’s High Street, attacked Harriet de Raeve, 22, at their home in Hurst Street, East Oxford, last April.
He was convicted of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
On Tuesday, the Lord Chief Justice, Lord Judge, upheld the sentence handed down by Mr Justice Saunders at the High Court in December despite the Solicitor General, Vera Baird, challenging the ruling.
She said the jail term was “simply not enough”.
Lord Judge told the Criminal Appeal Court the account of events put forward on behalf of the Solicitor General contained “a more damning account of Thompson's behaviour than the evidence justified”.
