VILLAGERS in North Oxford were stunned yesterday to learn a cannabis factory had been found in a rented house.
Twelve police officers – including Pc Sharon Wellstood, pictured – found 100 cannabis plants in a three-bedroom home in Godstow Road, Wolvercote.
A man in his 20s was arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis. He was being questioned at St Aldate’s police station last night.
Pc Wellstood said: “Officers forced their way in at 8am and discovered more than 100 cannabis plants. Officers are now trying to contact the landlord to let him know what has happened.”
Carl Keeble, who runs the Postbox village store off Godstow Road, said: “This is the first time I have ever heard of a cannabis factory in the village and I know people living here will be shocked by this.”
Vicky Brandon, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police, said the force was unable to give a precise street value for the cannabis plants at this stage.
