TWO of Oxford’s most successful new bands will play one of the county’s best-loved music festivals.
Folk-pop band Stornoway and rockers Little Fish are among 13 acts signed up for this summer’s Truck Festival in Steventon, near Abingdon, in July.
They are: Esben and the Witch; Egyptian Hip Hop; Fonda 500; Future of the Left; Good Shoes; Islet; Lau; Los Campesinos!; This Town Needs Guns and DJ Zinc & Ms Dynamite.
They will be among more than 100 local, national and international acts, which will attract 4,500 people to Hill Farm.
As reported earlier this month, the festival will be headlined by Danish band Mew, and an as-yet unnamed mystery act, to be revealed at the end of next month.
East Oxford’s Stornoway have received national exposure since the release of their single Zorbing.
They played Glastonbury Festival last year and starred on TV show Later... with Jools Holland.
Their forthcoming album Beachcomber’s Windowsill will be released on the 4AD label.
West Oxford/Drayton duo Juju and Nez of Little Fish have spent time in Los Angeles after being signed by producer and former 4 Non Blondes singer Linda Perry.
Festival founders, musician brothers Robin and Joe Bennett, said they were excited by the confirmation of both bands for Truck 13.
Robin said: “We’re working hard to make this festival a good one, as we are moving into our teenage years. Lots of other festivals have come and gone over the past 13 years, but we’re still going strong.
“Truck is great fun, people know what they’re getting. Let’s hope it’s a good summer – we deserve it after such a long winter.”
Also revealing their line-up is the Out to Graze Festival, which this year takes place near Banbury, starring Nextmen, MicroClimate, Snatch Productions, Dub Politics, Bassmentality and DJs from Oxford’s Simple and Slide clubnights. See The Guide next Thursday for more details.
Truck Festival is on July 23-25 at Hill Farm, Steventon. Adult tickets are £80 for the weekend. Teens (13-17) get in for £60, and under-12s for free. Go to thisistruck.com Out to Graze Festival is at Fir Tree Country Park, Warmington, from June 11-13. Go to outtograze.com news@oxfordmail.co.uk
