Sir – Further to Mr Hornby’s letter (March 18) concerning local sayings in Berkshire.
During the the war, I lived with my grandparents in Witney, on the Burford Road, and whenever we had a cold wind blowing my grandfather would say “they’ve left the gate open at field town (his name for Leafield) again”.
