Sir – An election hustings for the Oxford West and Abingdon constituency attracted over 300 people on Saturday night.
Questions and discussion kept the five candidates on their toes for two hours at St Margaret’s Institute in North Oxford.
Any of your readers thinking of arranging a hustings in their areas should be encouraged by the success of this event, organised to support the appeal for a new roof at St Margaret’s church.
Candidates across Oxfordshire will welcome all chances to debate political issues and Saturday’s experience suggests that voters will attend in large numbers.
Although politicians have rarely been held in lower esteem, politics itself remains important to all of us.
Chris Goodall, Green Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Oxford West and Abingdon
