More state school pupils have been offered a place at Oxford University for September 2010 than at any time in the past three years.
In all, 56.4 per cent of those offered places were from state schools.
But statistics revealed the proportion of state school pupils who took up a place at Oxford last September fell, from 55.4 per cent in 2008, to 53.9 per cent.
