A DARTS league organiser who has raised money for his local hospital for 40 years has handed over his latest cheque.
Nobby Bennett, 67, started running darts leagues in Didcot on August 6, 1969, and every year has run competitions to raise money for Didcot Hospital.
Over the years, the summer and winter darts competitions held by the Didcot Invitation Darts League have raised more than £10,000 for the community hospital.
Mr Bennett, of Teecroft, Didcot, said: “We just want to give something back to the community.
“The support from all the players has always been fantastic. Every year we ask for someone to pay for a trophy, so as much money as possible goes to the hospital, and every year, someone comes forward.”
He added: “We chose the hospital because it’s local. A lot of people that get cancer now end up back at Didcot. A lot of the players will have friends and family that have been treated there.”
Last week, Mr Bennett presented his latest £600 cheque to the 28-bed hospital’s ward manager Pam Treadwell.
She said: “We very much appreciate all the local support, and particularly continuing support such as we get from the darts league. This money will go towards special equipment and extra facilities for our patients.
“It’s extra-special when there is someone like Mr Bennett, who has raised money for such a long time.”
