TELEVISION personality Johnny Ball inspired pupils to persevere in their studies during a school visit.
Mr Ball, left, visited Burford School, in Cheltenham Road, to launch a science week.
He told students how important maths was in all kinds of careers.
He said: “One of the first questions you will be asked when applying for a job is the grade you got in your maths exams and if you didn’t do very well, your career opportunities are restricted.”
Mr Ball talked about how he left school at 16 with few qualifications but when he got his first job, he realised how important a good education was.
