CHILDREN at an Oxford primary school got in touch with their inner Tony Robinson for a day by focusing on archaeology.

A mock dig was staged at Larkrise Primary School, Boundary Brook Road, on Friday.

Areas of the school field were cordoned off and children had the chance to use metal detectors and examine “finds”, under the guidance of Oxford University experts.

Miss Stewart said: “It went absolutely fantastically. The children thoroughly enjoyed it and there were some fantastic learning opportunities.”

Pupils wrote stories inspired by the archaeology.

Miss Stewart said: “The advantage of a day like this is to inspire children's imagination through stories, and the artefacts take their imagination a step further.”
