THE parents of Paul Howkins have paid tribute to their avid football supporter son.
Mr Howkins, 25, of Red Poll Close, Banbury, was found with severe head injuries in the stairwell of flats in Longelandes Way on Monday, March 8, at 11.10pm.
He was taken to The Horton Hospital but died three days later.
His parents, Michael and Brenda, also of Red Poll Close, described their son as a real character who enjoyed life to the full.
In a statement, they said: “Paul was a beloved son, brother, uncle and nephew.
“In his short life, he was a real character and enjoyed life to the full. He loved his football and was an avid supporter of Manchester United since he was a young boy.
“The sudden death of Paul has had a devastating effect on his family and all those who knew him. There is not a day which goes by that he is not constantly thought of.
“Paul will be sadly missed by all of his family and friends.”
The family backed a call by police for anyone with any information about how Mr Howkins was injured to come forward.
His parents said: “We would ask that any person who knows anything about the incident where Paul lost his young life, or has any information which may assist the police with their inquiries, to contact them without delay.”
Antony Bebbington, 24, of Ruscote Arcade, Banbury, has been remanded in custody charged with murder.
Anyone with information should call Det Ch Insp Joe Kidman on 08458 505505 or the Crimestoppers hotline on 0800 555111.
