AN OXFORD couple who fell in love on the dance floor have twirled their way through 60 years of married life.

Bill and Audrey Wilson, who mark their diamond wedding anniversary day today, still regularly take turns across the dance floor, keeping them fit into their 80s.

The couple, parents to Lynn and Russell, and who have five grandchildren, met at a dance at the Hammersmith Palais, in London, in 1948.

Two years later they tied the knot at St Clement’s Church, Oxford, and moved into a cottage in Marston before setting up home in Alice Smith Square, Littlemore, in 1952.

Mrs Wilson, 80, a former clerical worker at the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food office in Marston Road, said: “We both went on a trip from Oxford to London and that’s when it started.

“I was with some friends and I was just dancing. He came over and asked me for a dance, and it carried on from there.

“I don’t know why I knew he was the one – you just know, don’t you.

“We went dancing a lot and we still do.”

Durham-born Mr Wilson, 84, who worked as a senior foreman at Morris Motors in Cowley, still runs a dance night at Cowley Conservative Club every Sunday evening.

Mrs Wilson said: “We enjoy it. It’s very friendly there, and it’s sociable and good exercise.

“We do ballroom dancing, sequence dancing and Latin.”

Mr Wilson added: “I knew she was the one and we’ve never looked back.

“We do have arguments, but it’s give and take all the time.

“We never go to sleep on an argument.”
