Sir – I enjoyed reading the article Last resting place for city’s Jews in last week’s issue. It was informative, but unfortunately carried a number of small factual errors.
Its appearance is timely though, as only recently a new website has been launched, www.oxfordjewishheritage.co.uk, specifically to raise the profile of Oxford’s Jewish history from earliest records through to modern day.
Several academics feature on the advisory committee which attempts to ensure its accuracy. The site includes annotated maps showing Oxford during the 13th century.
May I suggest that anyone with an interest in finding out more about the history of the Jewish presence in Oxford from medieval times should visit the site.
