Police divers scoured the Thames riverbed during an investigation into a theft.
A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with shoplifting after a computer was stolen from Staples, in Park End Street, Oxford, on Wednesday, February 24.
PC Craig Newton is pictured climbing into the water while PC Andy Clark and Sgt Simon Briggs assist. PC Clark was among divers who searched the river at Osney yesterday morning in a bid to find the computer.
Police spokesman Chris Kearney said: “Inquiries led police to believe the stolen computer was abandoned in the River Thames.
“Unfortunately the divers did not find the computer but will return at another time for a second attempt.”
Police Community Support Officers were also at the riverbank near Arthur Road and East Street.
The 39-year-old man is on bail until Monday, March 22.
Anyone with information should call police on 08458 505505 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
