A FOOTBALL fan has been banned from attending games for three years and five others have been charged following clashes between Oxford United and Luton Town supporters.
The cases have been brought after trouble flared before and during United’s home win over the Bedfordshire side in September.
At Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 24-year-old Luton supporter James Fish admitted a public order offence relating to an incident in the North Stand in which rival fans attempted to reach each other over a line of netting.
Fish, of Cranbourne Drive, Harpenden, was given a three-year football banning order and fined £240, a £15 victims’ surcharge and £85 costs. Meanwhile, Oxford fans Richard Denton, 26, of Coriander Way, Blackbird Leys, and Chris Masters, 27, of Bassett Way, Kidlington, have denied public-order offences.
Keith Chambers, 33, of Cowper Street, Luton, was charged in relation to an incident outside the ground and David Cremin, 23, of May Street, Luton, will be tried over the North Stand incident.
All the trials are expected to take place in May and June.
Shane Smith, 20, of Woodmere, Luton, was due to appear at Oxford Magistrates’ Court yesterday charged with breaching an existing banning order, but a warrant was put out for his arrest after he failed to arrive.
