THESE were the days when the RAC had a base in Oxford.
The motoring organisation opened new offices in the Summertown shopping centre in 1969 to meet increasing demand for its services.
Its first office opened in St Giles in 1925, followed by a move to larger offices in St Aldate’s in 1939.
Thirty years later, as membership grew, even more space was needed.
Tony Andrews, the RAC’s South Midland Counties manager, was in charge of the office, which served the needs of members in Oxfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and Berkshire.
