A STAGEHAND working at the upcoming Oxfringe festival was handed a suspended prison sentence today for possessing cannabis with intent to supply.
Terence Webster, of Foxwell Drive, Headington, Oxford, was caught with 252g of the Class B drug in Hurst Street, East Oxford, on September 16. He admitted the charge.
At Oxford Crown Court yesterday, prosecutor Matthew Walsh said the 45-year-old’s stash would have been worth about £1,300 in “street deals”.
Sophie Murray, defending, said married father-of-one Webster had a history of dishonesty offences, but had not been in trouble since 1998.
She said: “He has stopped using cannabis since his arrest and has been working for theatre groups. He is working for the Oxfringe event for a production between April 5 and 10.”
Judge Bruce McIntyre gave Webster a 12-month prison sentence, suspended for two years. He also handed him a year-long supervision order and told him to do 200 hours’ unpaid work and comply with a three-month curfew between 1am and 7am, except during Oxfringe.
