Police today released a CCTV image of a man wanted in relation to a theft at a supermarket in Didcot.
At 3pm on Wednesday, a 31-year-old woman who was shopping at Sainsbury’s was allegedly followed to the checkouts by a man, who is thought to have watched her enter her PIN as she paid.
Police said he is then alleged to have followed the woman to her car and, working with another man, distracted her by asking for directions.
It is believed the man then stole her bank cards from her purse, which was in the car.
The cards were subsequently used to withdraw almost £600 in three transactions at cash machines. The woman was unaware of these transactions until she saw her bank statement.
PC Katie Palmer said: “I’d like to speak to the man pictured in the CCTV image, anyone who saw him in the area at the time, or who recognises him.
“I would also like to speak to the driver of the gold Vauxhall that can be seen to the right of the second CCTV image, or anyone who recognises the vehicle.
“I’d encourage shoppers to take care of their PIN. Make sure you cover the keypad when entering your number, and check to see if anyone is watching you before you do.”
If you have any information regarding the incident, please call the 24-hour Thames Valley Police non-emergency number on 0845 8 505 505. If you don’t want to speak to police or give your name, please call the Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
