TV COMEDIANS Graham Norton and Rory Bremner will join Rob Brydon and a host of other stars for a fundraising show for Oxford’s Helen and Douglas House hospice.
The two comedians complete the line-up for this year’s Childish Things, at the New Theatre, in George Street, on Saturday, March 20.
Since the first Childish Things was staged six years ago, the shows have raised more than £170,000 for Helen and Douglas House, in Magdalen Road, East Oxford, which cares for termin-ally ill children and young people.
Kate Day, who organises the event with friend Lizzie Pickering, said: “Yet more big names are coming to help us out, which is amazing.
“It shows the secret of Childish Things has not only been broken in Oxford but in the comedy world as well, and people are quite genuinely excited about it.”
She said that while it was the first time Graham Norton had appeared, he was a big supporter of the hospice and helped to raise money for the building of Douglas House.
As well as the three big names, Jason Manford, Hal Cruttenden, Tommy and the Weeks and Jack Whitehall have all confirmed they will be taking part, along with Oxford group Out of the Blue and musician Ally Craig, from Grove, who gets respite care at Douglas House.
Miss Day said: “One of the scariest things is that we never know until pretty close to the date what our final line-up is going to be, so we really haven’t known for very long that Graham and Rory would be performing, which is a bit nerve-wracking. We are thrilled to bits.”
Each year, all comedians taking part give their time for free, and the New Theatre is also provided free of charge.
The coffers are swelled by profits from bar and ice cream sales on the night, collection buckets and a raffle.
Virtually all the tickets have been sold, but there are still a few seats left.
Miss Day said they were already on course to raise £40,000 for the charity.
She said: “Every year we start out thinking how on earth are we going to manage to put a similarly impressive line-up together and every year so far, we have.
“It’s with a huge amount of help from other people and it’s just amazing that we can continue to do it.”
Rob Brydon, who took part in the show in 2005, said: “I’m delighted to be coming back to Oxford to take part in another Childish Things extravaganza. I’m looking forward to a fun night out.”
