The Red Cup semi-final between Horspath and Summertown Galaxy was finally settled by a penalty shoot out after the two games ended in an overall 2-2 draw with Horspath ahead 2-1 after the first game before ’Galaxy won the second 1-0. Both games were tense affairs with goal chances limited as the two teams restricted their opponent’s chances through some solid and resolute defending.
In front of a large enthusiastic crowd at Abingdon Town’s Culham Road ground, the ‘shoot out’ first swung ‘Galaxy’s way as Horspath missed their first kick. But after five penalties a piece, parity had been restored as both 'keepers made two good stops each to force a sudden death shoot out.
Nerves then got the better of both sets of players as the next seven penalties were missed or saved before ’Galaxy’s goalkeeper Isaac Parsons coolly handed his gloves to the ref for safe keeping before slotting home the winner to send Summertown Galaxy through to the final.
