It is a real shame that a bout of political correctness has got in the way of Wantage youth worker Garry Kingett’s plans to reopen the Sweatbox youth club in the town. The club was forced to close because of drunkenness among some of the youngsters attending the facility.
Mr Kingett was proposing all the right things for his plan to reopen the centre. Crucially, there was also, the deterrent threat of random breath tests. Testing, says the county council, is against its policy and, as a result, an important town facility remains closed.
