A PREGNANT drug addict who stole from the Poppy Appeal has been given “one last chance” to address her situation before being sentenced.
Sabrina Burton, 25, was due to be given her punishment at Oxford Crown Court today, after earlier admitting stealing two Royal British Legion and Multiple Sclerosis collection tins in Headington, Oxford, on November 6.
She also admitted attempting to steal a second RBL one in the same area on November 9.
But Judge Julian Hall adjourned the case for two weeks for Burton to attend a drug-rehabilitation requirement appointment as part of her pre-sentence report.
She failed to attend an initial meeting last week.
Judge Hall said: “I remember when I was a barrister, telling people that it was the time when it was raining very hard and anything they had been saving for a rainy day, this was the moment to put it in.
“By simply not getting in touch with the probation service is not doing you any good.
“They will help you in what is a terribly pickle and I’m looking to give you one last chance.
“You must realise that.”
He added: “I’ve got to be persuaded you want to help yourself.”
Burton, of Fettiplace Road, Barton, was bailed to be sentenced at the same court on Friday, February 19.
