SPENDING nights in a mobile home is not everyone’s idea of the ultimate holiday.
However, sceptics may find their minds swayed if they popped into a caravan park in Standlake.
The park in question – Lincoln Farm Park in the village’s High Street – has been named as the best campsite in the 2010 AA Caravan and Camping Britain and Ireland Guide awards.
Last night, the owners of the site expressed their delight at winning the prestigious accolade.
Stephen and April Wilders quit their cleaning business and spent two years travelling the country to find the perfect place to pitch up.
The pair settled on Lincoln Farm park two years ago, and Mrs Wilders, 47, said: “I’m proud of the whole campsite really.
“Sometimes I can’t really believe that I do live here.”
The park, which opened for the season on Monday, is run by Mr and Mrs Wilders together with wardens Brian and Pauline Johnson and Mike and Chrissie Pillin.
The site’s nine acres of grounds are maintained by Gordon Waldford.
The AA award was judged by a group of inspectors, and Lincoln Farm Park was cited as the overall winner because of its standards of maintenance and high levels of customer service.
It was the second time the campsite has won the award.
Previous owner Jeff Hawkins won it in 2002.
Mrs Johnson, 54, said: “I think it keeps winning because of the friendliness of the staff and the upkeep of the park.
“It looks nice, if anything breaks we fix it, so the standard of the park is always there.”
The 90-pitch park has two indoor swimming pools, a fully-equipped gym, a pitch and putt area and a games room.
It also has an animal corner, with chickens, quails and rabbits, and a playing field.
Mr Wilders, 52, said: “Our visitors love the swimming pools and the village location, with pubs within walking distance.”
People who are not staying at the campsite can also use the swimming pools and gym.
Mr Johnson, 58, said: “Everybody is always greeted with a friendly face.”
Kathy and Terry O’Connell , from Worcestershire, have been spending their holidays at the park for 11 years.
Mrs O’Connell, 49, said: “We love the leisure facilities, they are second to none.
“We’ve seen campsites all over the country and it can’t be beaten.
“We like the area as well. We like Witney, and the river and Oxford. And my husband is a plane spotter so he likes Brize Norton.
“We have two cats that we bring with us as they are indoor cats and are used to walking on harnesses.”
