IN view of several letters by myself to this forum with reference to the use of mobile phones by drivers, I was greatly encouraged to read The Scales of Justice, (Oxford Mail, January 25).
A printed reply to my critisism of Thames Valley Police and their apparent action towards such offenders did little to quell my feelings towards the police.
However, Scales of Justice reported six sucessful court prosecutions which is encouraging. The downside was the four-month delay from the date of offence to the court hearing. No doubt a larger impact would be felt by the offender if it was dealt with in a quicker manner by the courts.
I applaud any action now being taken by the police to combat this crime which has now risen to greater levels than before the laws were introduced banning the use of handheld devices by drivers.
