REGARDING Andrew Smith’s piece on the 2CV (Your Wheels, Oxford Mail, January 22) – he is obviously not an experienced driver nor a fun person!
I have had my 2CV since 1990 having bought it new in Portugal.
We bought it as it was cheaper than hiring a car every time we used our holiday home in the Algarve. It was used about 10 weeks a year for two years, then we moved there permanently for my husband’s work – leaving behind ‘his and her’ Jaguars!
However, ‘Tina’ (as we named the 2CV, because she was our ‘foreign affair’) has never let me down.
I can always find her in a car park, she’s easy to drive over the dunes as she is high off the ground, and is very easy to maintain. There are several 2CV suppliers who are all fanatics, and any part I may need is sent by return of email order.
The 2CV monthly magazine was voted best monthly car mag. If you don’t know how to drive a proper car, then this is not for you!
I’m in the UK at the moment and miss Tina, but when I go back I’ll just put the battery back on and away we go.
I also shipped her over to Madeira where we spent six years working. That is a very hilly place but the girl did good.
While all the so-called normal cars are on the scrapheap my Tina will still be rolling along!
