TWO teenagers were arrested after a baby girl suffered injuries consistent with being assaulted.
Police were called to Oxford’s John Radcliffe Hospital on Tuesday night when doctors raised concerns about the injuries of the baby which had been brought in for treatment.
Two teenagers were subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and released on bail.
Detectives from the Child Investigation Unit at Cowley police station have also launched an investigation into the cause of the injuries.
Last night, a spokesman for Thames Valley Police said: “We can confirm that two people were arrested on Tuesday on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent after a young baby was admitted to the John Radcliffe Hospital with serious injuries.”
It is unclear how the baby girl arrived at hospital as a spokesman for South Central Ambulance Service said there was no record of having taken a baby with such injuries to hospital.
A 16-year-old girl and 18-year-old man have been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and released on bail until March 16.
Police were unable to release any details about the condition of the baby.
