A WOMAN was flown to hospital by the air ambulance after two cars collided at the entrance to a Bicester supermarket today.
The accident, near the Bicester Village shopping complex, caused major traffic problems in the area.
The woman was driving a Fiat Punto, which collided with a Mercedes at the Tesco car park in Pingle Drive, near the Bicester Village retail park.
The incident happened at about 12.45pm. The woman and a man who was driving the Mercedes were both believed to have suffered leg injuries, but they were not thought to be life-threatening.
The woman was trapped inside her car after the crash and had to be released by firefighters, who cut off the car’s roof to move her.
Three fire crews, including the rescue tender from Kidlington, were called to the scene, along with paramedics and police.
Station manager Bob Speakman, from Kidlington fire station, said: “The chap in the Mercedes came into Tesco and the lady driving the smaller car was coming out.
“The lady was airlifted to hospital with leg injuries. The man, in his 50s, was taken by ambulance to hospital. He also had leg injuries.”
Scores of shoppers were unable to leave the supermarket car park for over two hours, because the collision blocked the entrance.
Pingle Drive reopened at 2.30pm to allow access to Bicester Village. Tesco’s entrance reopened about an hour later, after accident investigators inspected the scene.
Anyone with information about the accident should call the Bicester traffic police unit on 08458 505505.
