Here we have a mixed case full of the two trendiest wines on the market and they are both Italian. Prosecco first came to fame in the 1930s, when Harry’s Bar in Venice invented the Bellini cocktail using Prosecco and peach juice. Pinot Grigio became popular a few years ago because everyone had got bored of so much overoaked Aussie chardonnay and wanted a clean refreshing white wine.
The Prosecco and Pinot Grigio case costs £76 and includes three bottles each of the following four wines.
Prosecco Frizzante La Delfina NV: Frizzante (as opposed to Spumante) wines are less fizzy and consequently fruitier as the gas in a sparkling wine tends to mask the fruit. This is a lovely semi-sparkling, floral and ultra-fruity wine.
Prosecco Sacchetto NV: Very crisp and refreshing, this classic fizzy wine has subtle flavours of apples and pears with a touch of floral scent to it.
Dry River Pinot Grigio 2008, Australia: An ultra-fruity wine from down under, this has loads of citrus blossom, lime and grapefruit alongside green apple and crunchy crisp fruit.
Matra Hill Pinot Grigio Blush 2007, Hungary: This late-picked rosé style has flavours of cherries, apple and honeysuckle and makes an excellent companion to dried meats and salads.
