Police today issued a warning to motorists after snow and ice again hit the region.
Sub-zero temperatures and snow falling on top of icy roads has caused treacherous driving conditions. A number of collisions have been reported this morning.
A police spokesman said: "Before travelling, motorists should make sure that all the windows on their car are clear of snow and ice.
"They should also ensure their car is fully fuelled and that they have packed warm clothes, blankets, food and drink, and their mobile phone and in-car phone charger to allow them to communicate with friends and relatives if they get into problems.
"The public is reminded that emergency calls for police, fire and ambulance services should be made only in genuine emergency situations.
"Priority is being given to calls concerning life-threatening situations and assistance to vulnerable people. If you feel unwell, make use of NHS Direct. Only call an ambulance if advised to do so.
