YOUR coverage of the opening of the new library at Rose Hill was excellent, and I am pleased that councillor Ruth Wilkinson received the praise she richly deserved for the time and effort she put in to make the oft-discussed project a reality for the estate.
However, I was somewhat embarrassed to find my name mentioned as a volunteer when, in fact, I am not.
Though I backed the project and gave wholehearted support, I do not deserve any credit for the success of the scheme.
Honours should go to the library committee and others who, over the past year, have devoted their time to organise and sort out the many books donated by publishers and residents.
Among those who deserve a mention are Gillian and Stephen Richardson, Carol Davis, Peter Wilkinson and young Lloyd Barrett, who have regularly met to organise how the money received should be spent, and methods to be employed to encourage residents to use the facilities available.
Their success can be measured, as at the end of the opening session I noticed a couple of youngsters sitting quietly in the corner of the room already engrossed in a few books.
I wish the Rose Hill Read/Swap Library every success and would encourage everyone living on the estate to use this marvellous new amenity.
