l REGARDING plans to create a 20mph speed limit zone in the centre of Abingdon (Oxford Mail, January 21), do the people from Oxfordshire County Council ever have to drive in the town?
If they did, they would know that you can barely move at the moment.
If I could get above 20mph I would be thrilled.
Instead, we constantly sit in traffic, which crawls along.
The council has such hair-brained ideas it is becoming a joke.
When is it going to realise that the money which has been spent on this traffic scheme is a waste.
It does not seem able to face up to the fact it has not worked at all, yet it wonders why people avoid the town and its shops.
We want the council to stop wasting our money on schemes which do not, and will not, work.
The traffic moved better before all these changes and new traffic lights. It does not need to spend money on 20mph signs or marking the road.
If it asked the people of Abingdon, all would say they already drive at less than 20mph as it is.
