POLICE detected 40 motoring offences during two road safety operations yesterday.
A two hour check on Buckland Road, Bampton, saw 25 drivers exceed the 30mph speed limit. Sixteen of the drivers were offered the opportunity to attend a speed awareness course.
A later hour long operation on Sunderland Avenue, North Oxford, saw five drivers caught using their mobile phone while driving and 10 people who were not wearing their seatbelts.
The drivers using mobiles were issued with a Fixed Penalty Notice (FPN) of £60 and three penalty points.
The people not wearing their seatbelts were given a FPN of £60, although they were given the opportunity to attend an educational programme at their own cost, in place of the penalty notice.
Road safety officer PC Mark Pilling said: “A number of drivers continue to break laws intended for their own and other road users safety. We will continue with our campaigns of enforcement and education to spread road safety messages across the county.”
