A RETIRED doctor died after his son ran him over as he guided him into a parking space, an inquest heard yesterday.
Reading Coroner’s Court was told former Kennington GP Dr Salim Verjee died from multiple injuries after he was dragged under the wheels of his family’s Mercedes C500 in June.
Dr Verjee, 66, of Main Road, Fyfield, near Abingdon, had worked at Kennington Health Centre for 20 years before retiring in 1996.
The inquest heard he had been teaching his son Zoolfikar to drive, and was directing the 34-year-old into a space at Sonning Golf Club when the car went forward and hit him.
He died at Reading’s Royal Berkshire Hospital, Reading.
Zoolfikar Verjee said: “I tried to reverse the car but I made a mistake and drove forward.”
Coroner Peter Bedford recorded a verdict of accidental death.
